Here a pic made while unpacking our brand new iMac G5! Bless (our dog) seems quite happy..

The screen really is HUGE, the processor really fast (2Ghz G5)!

  1. Hard to judge: is that a 17 or 20 inch screen?
I’m thinking of buying an Apple myself now that they are still PPC-powered.

  2. It’s a 20 inch monitor! :-)

  3. Awesome! did you have mac experience before or are you just converting now? I’m not quite sure yet if I should move over.

  4. Well not directly. I kind of got my girl friend into buying a powerbook G4, so I played alot with that one (she wasn’t always happy with that, wanted to delete my account once ;-)).

Switching doesn’t seem to be a real big thing. It seems to me that you only have advantages like a more reliable system, look-and-feel, usability..
If you have some Windows progs which haven’t been portet to OS X then use VirtualPC (it’s slower though -> emulation of x86 on ppc).
I for my part love the Unix background. You can just let the internal shell pop up and start working like on a regular linux system (kismet, etc. also runs on macs!).

So what kept me from buying a powerbook? I’m still waiting for the G5 - but I think thant won’t come anymore (heat, battery problems I think; and now switching to Intel..). We’ll see.

So don’t think about it to much, just switch! You’ll enjoy it.

  5. If I get some extra cash around, I probably will.

One of the things stopping me is that I have pretty decent laptop that runs on Ubuntu pretty well and allows me to do all of the stuff I normally do on a laptop and my workstation is Windows based and allows me to tons of things.

Since I have 2 pretty great systems I’m wondering what should I get a laptop or a desktop mac, At times I think a laptop would be a waste of money cause I can do all of what I need on my current one, so that leaves me with choosing a desktop probably a Mac Mini for starters.

Its kinda werid me being such a big geek that I am worring about what I’m going to do with so much hardware… gosh I guess I need a hobby and waste my time and money there.

  6. BTW it would be great to exchange ideas with you if you have IM you can reach me on the MSN network at aecheca(AT)hotmail(DOT)com
