bogus wireless security?

Today I stumbled over a blog writing about wireless security:

Another tip to add security to your wireless network is to disable the SSID broadcast on your wireless base station.

It’s quite scary what those peoble advise to secure their access point. Just turning SSID Broadcasting off doesn’t make a difference at all. As soon as active or passive scanners are around, the network can be discovered within seconds.
The most secure way would be to tunnel all traffic trough VPN - I think some guy’s over at smoothwall.org have something similar here , here and here.

  1. The problem with most tech is the average person is too lazy to familiarize themselves with the product. Typically, everything is kept at default. Many U.S. government computers have blank admins. If you know a little you can do a lot to most computers.
