I pimped my Windows XP desktop to the “real” OS X look and feel (I’m only missing an OS X like top bar with tray stuff). Oh yes, it does feel really good!

My desktop now is a combination of Konfabulator (Yahoo distributes it for free now) with several neat widgets and RK launcher (beta 0.4). The dock has some really cool features like a “zoom out effect” when minimizing an application. It also supports some docklets made for Object dock or Y’z. A dock is nothing without any cool hig resolution icon images. Well download this guy’s zipped package and you should be all set.

I love the default weather widget and the ip/system statistics. Do you see the small thumbnails of the minimized programs? Awesome..
By the way: you think 9° is “summer”? ugly.

I’ve almost missed the coolest package installed on my machinte to get a “OS X look” - Flyakite 2.0. His website is the coolest one around I know and his lightweight theme package is outstanding. Have a look at my top-bar buttons:

And of course the really cool logon screen:

I promise, you’ll love it - but be sure to have a “fast” processor to run Konfabulator and RK launcher at a reasonable speed. Flyakite doesn’t use any additional system ressources, so it shouldn’t be a problem at all!
update (17.8.05): I updated my system with TopDesk, really the most cool Exposé replacement for Windows you can get (10$ though)! It works quite smooth and comes in very handy if you have a lot of open applications all the time. It also has that feature where you can initiate the alignment of all apps by moving your mouse to any corner of your screen. Cool!
The other free programs I tried are all crap. Only Entbloess can more or less compete with TopDesk. It was quite slow though on my machine (1.86 Ghz).

Looks neat-o. I have my mind set on installing true OS X, though
It just seems to cool to be true, I’ll have to try the “real thing” myself..
This is too wicked, you must have spent a crap load of wasted money on getting those objectdock things etc no?
If you believe it or not, I spent 9.95$ for Topdesk, the rest is FREE (you just need some time to adjust the stuff)
By the way, it’s not Object Dock, it’s RK Launcher :-).
Hah excellent just read it properly now - I’m pimpin’ my doze box.
Hi Philippe,
I actually just wonder, whether TopDesk supports drag&drop, a feature of Exposé many people don’t know about.
Congratulation, you WinDoze looks really nice, but nevertheless I still prefer my original OSX
Greetings
René
Hey René!
Drag and drop really does work with TopDesk. It’s an almost perfect copy.. (just a bit slower than the mac open-gl accelerated version)
