I almost forgot: skype does actually work (I think it’s able to connect from almost anywhere because its ability to use port 80 http)!
The pc card seems to be a Globetrotter 3G+ device.
Some sick guys tried to use similar cards on a WRT543G using OpenWRT - maybe I should try it too :-)? They also posted some interesting links..
Although swisscom does officially deny OS X support there still seems to be a good option (see this page too, similar card).
It’s always very interesting and helpfull to read wikipedia:
In Switzerland, Swisscom has announded (22 February, 2006), that they will provide coverage in Berne, Geneva and Zurich by mid-2006.
Read articles on HSDPA (referred to as 3.5G), UMTS (also called 3G) and EDGE (encancement to GPRS, 2.75G).

Compliments on the site–lots of good info.
I just got a Globetrotter GT Max for use here in the US, and I have been trying to determine if it is the same PC card Swisscom calls the “5in1″. I would like to be able to use it in CH with Swisscom if I can get a non-subscription data plan.
From your experience, does this sound like a realistic plan?
Thanks,
Andrew
Hey Andrew! Your card should work without any problems if it does not have a sim-look for your local operator. The only problem is, that swisscom does not offer non-subscription data plans as far as I know.. I have a subscription with a 2gb/month plan - You need stick to it for at least one year.
