The virtualization solution Parallels offers three distinct ways to give network access to virtual machines. Besides host-only and bridget-ethernet shared-networking is the easiest solution, if it is working out of the box. Parallels sets up a virtual interface called Parallels-NAT, which sometimes can be broken if the user does fiddle around to much. Reinstall it by entering the following:

sudo /Applications/Parallels/Parallels\ Desktop.app/Contents/Resources/PvsvnicConfigure

Watch the path and backslashes!

You are all set.
