I got sick of ugly stuffed desktops. Inspired by this article I declared war on my own desktop - see the fruitful results:

I set Safari to put downloads into Inbox. Current work and temp files get stored in Pending. The Archive folders helps me get quick access to less frequently used files. The Textmate projects folder is an intelligent folder which collects all project files.
